We are fortunate to have two Georgia conductors of great repute leading us at Spivey Hall this summer (June 28-29, 2007).  The ticketed performance will be part of the Georgia ACDA Summer Conference Schedule at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night.  Please register students ASAP using the posted Honor Choir forms.  The $45 fee includes their music packet!

 

Norma Raybon earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa.  She was an Associate Professor of Music at Spelman College and Director of the Spelman College Glee Club from 1991 to 1999.  Prior to this appointment, she served on the faculties at the University of South Florida, and the State University of New York.  She has sung with the Chicago and St. Louis Symphony Choruses and currently is a member of the Atlanta Symphony Chorus.  Norma Raybon was Director of Music at Mountain Park United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, GA for four years, and then served as Interim Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church, Marietta.  In spring, 2006, the Norma Raybon Chorale had a successful concert tour to Austria.  Dr. Raybon presently is the Minister of Music at the First Congregational Church in Atlanta.  She frequently conducts All-State Festivals, clinics and workshops for conductors and music educators around the country and has served as the president of the Georgia American Choral Director’s Association. 

 

Kevin Hibbard is Director of Choirs at the University of West Georgia, and also serves as department chair. Dr. Hibbard holds degrees in vocal and choral music from Luther College and Arizona State University. He has done additional graduate work at Westminster Choir College and the Blossom Festival School of Kent State University.  Conductors with whom he has worked extensively include Robert Shaw, Weston Noble, Douglas McEwen, Howard Swan, Robert Page, Paul Christiansen, and Vance George.  He has sung with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus, and with the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers.  Dr. Hibbard's experience includes public school teaching, church choirs, community choirs, and boy choirs.  He has served as guest conductor for choral festivals in numerous states, and frequently serves as adjudicator and clinician for vocal events.  His choirs have appeared on music convention programs in Georgia, Illinois, and WisconsinIn addition to his work at the University of West Georgia, Hibbard is Choir Director at Grace Lutheran Church in Carrollton, and Music Director of Collegium Vocale, a select community chorus that presents concerts of classical choral literature on the campus of Emory University.  Dr. Hibbard is a past-president of Georgia ACDA.
